Context

Expedia is one of the largest online travel agencies (OTA) powering travel for tens of millions of people every year. As part of their Partner Insights team, I worked on converting the vast amount of data they collect into actionable insights for 1M+ hotels and vacation rental owners. My work there spanned from coaching hotels on increasing their bookings to designing mobile and web end-to-end experiences for Vrbo owners with multiple properties.

Problem

People who own multiple properties have no way to see their overall performance on Vrbo.

User frustration

People with multiple listings always had a hard time on Vrbo. They've had to manually check how every one of their properties was performing and had no way to get an overview or even filter down on a subset of properties. Research had shown there was a sizable appetite for these features... back in 2017.

Solution

Earnings

A dedicated earnings page for users to quickly view their past and future revenue, and a direct access to earnings reports and transactions history.

I prototyped all data visualization interactions using Claude Code and shared it directly with the engineering team.

A completely reimagined homepage with the information users were expecting: upcoming stays, performance overview, and their properties.

Performance

A centralized experience for owners to see their overall performance on Vrbo, with metrics divided by categories: quality, visibility, pricing, guests. View all your properties by default, and filter down by region, amenities, rooms and beds, and more.

Accessible, scalable, localized

Serving millions of users means ensuring products are accessible (WCAG and APCA compliance) and localized (40+ languages).

Mobile-first, but desktop-ready

Design followed where users were, which was mobile. But all features were available on desktop as well.
